INTRODUCTION TO ALS252 (CREATIVE WRITING)

 1) WHAT IS CREATIVE WRITING? 

- Creative writing is known as "the art of making things up". It is a vital part of modern society. 

- Traditionally referred to as literature. Creative writing is an art of sorts.  

      - The art of making things up. The writing is done in a way that does not focus on academics or technical but still attracts the reader and also the audience to read. 

- Creative writing can be considered as a writer that has original ideas and is self-expressive towards their works. 


2) LEARNING OUTCOMES FOR ALS252 

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

2.1: Construct various creative writing contents by employing creative writing strategies (P2)

2.2: Integrate professionalism and positive attitude in constructing and analyzing of various           creative writing content (A4)

2.3: Analyse the use of creative writing elements in various literary texts based on creative             writing strategies (C4)


- COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course aims to expose students to write various prose and short stories.

Students are able to express their creative ideas and produce pieces of writings that have

commercial values. 






3) ASSESSMENTS RUBRICS FOR ALS252


A) SHORT STORY RUBRICS

  • Can write a series of simple phrases and sentences linked with simple connectors like “and", “but” and “because”
  • Can write straightforward connected texts on a range of familiar subjects within his field of interest, by linking a  series of shorter discrete elements into a linear sequence. 

  • Can write clear, well-structured texts of complex subjects, underlining the relevant salient issues, expanding and  supporting points of view at some length with subsidiary points, reasons and relevant examples, and rounding off  with an appropriate conclusion.
  • Can write clear, smoothly flowing, complex texts in an appropriate and effective style and a logical structure which  helps the reader to find significant points.



B) POEM


  • The poem goes perfectly  together. There is unity between lines and stanzas which connect with the topic. 
  •  The poem uses at least 5 poetic  elements to enhance the poem  and the readers’ emotions.
  • The poem uses rhythm throughout which benefit the  poetic tone.

  • The poem uses 4 or more  unique metaphors and  similes to describe  situations, objects, and people.


            C) COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT (GROUP PROJECT) 
  • Demonstrate a self-reliant attitude in general in performing a task. (5-6)

  • Demonstrate a self-reliant attitude in most situations in performing a task. (7-8)

  • Always demonstrate a self-reliant attitude in all situations in performing a task. (9-10)


            

 4.0 TEACHING METHODOLOGY


 The teaching method is based on direct instructions, interactive lectures, discussions, and online activities. Students are encouraged to use creative writing elements in their writing activities. Emphasis is given on student-centred activities and learning which includes:
